The karma substitutions are custom substitutions and not actual fields. Their output is provided directly by Kunena. For a field to substitute its HTML display in it needs to meet visibility requirements. This means the user has to have access to that field and that field needs to be set to display. It however can be put on a tab in a not shown on profile position if you don't want it actually visible.
