Webm videos not playing in IE was created by 900010000
Hi,

Do you know why IE will not play uploaded .webm videos? Is the code using type='video/webm'? Any suggestion for this? My site's users are really having problems watching videos because IE won't play them and many people use IE.

Warm Regards,
Joseph

You need silverlight or maybe flash for IE. I recommend sticking to MP3 and MP4 for the best compatibility between browsers through. There's nothing I can do about a browser not playing an HTML5 format. Some will and some won't. It depends on browser version, whether the browser needs a plugin, etc..

Hey, thanks for your answer and quick response. Mp3 is working great, thanks for your work on it. The problem I'm having is with videos. I have chosen to use Webm files because it works with Firefox and Chrome. When I try Mp4's then it works in IE, but then it doesn't play with Firefox and Chrome. It just never loads. When I click the hotlinked video title in Firefox then I get an error that the file is corrupt, but it plays fine in IE and on my computer. Also, if I click the hotlinked video title in IE, then it tries to open Windows Media Player to play it, but it returns an error: "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct." It would help if there was a way to make videos accessible across all browsers, but it seems none of the acceptable formats are. What can be done about this? Thanks again.

Warmly,
Joseph

Ensure you're using CB Gallery 1.0.4 as there was an issue with content length in the header causing some videos not to play. Normally you'd supply multiple formats, but CB Gallery is not designed for such output (and never will as you'd need a video processing server to encode to multiple formats). See the below for compatibility.

developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats#Browser_compatibility

So with that said MP4 should be working fine. In my tests MP3 for audio and MP4 for video seams to work fine in Chrome. Maybe your Firefox and Chrome need to update?

Oh, great, it's fixed in CB Gallery 1.0.4! Now the MP4 is playing in IE, Firefox, and Chome. IE still does not play the Webm format for me, but it's ok. I can use Mp4. Maybe I have to re-upload about 60 videos. But I'm glad it works. Thanks for the solid help!

Warmly,
Joseph

Based off the compatibility chart linked above IE doesn't support Webm so you'll want to stick with MP4 for best compatibility.
