Questions about CB activity RC1

You mentioned in the article that all other plugins will be upgraded to allow the stream etc... does that mean that GJ for example will not work anymore with the stream? ie it will not show anymore if somebody has joined a group?

Yes, that's exactly what that means. CB Activity previously acted on a bunch of plugin triggers and had to keep up with a bunch of different APIs. This isn't very realistic for CB Activity as each time one of those APIs had a minor change it'd break CB Activity. Instead CB Activity now has a namespaced PHP API library that plugins will be able to utilize making it easier to maintain and provides significantly better control over what the plugins activity logs.

Most cases won't need to have CB Activity hardcoded in though. In those cases CB Auto Actions would just act on their trigger and log the activity directly. This improves performance quite significantly as CB Activity doesn't have to have its query or its display processed by another plugin. I won't be implementing the API usage into other plugins until CB Activity hits a stable release, but like I said most plugins likely won't need CB Activity implemented at all and you'd just use CB Auto Actions to customize and log activity.

Euh I am not sure I understand how to do it... In CB action, you can publish stuff to CB activity, however you have define all the activities that should be published??? That could be loads and loads and I am not sure I know all the stuff that is needed. Could you make a Video of how to do it?

I am sure that more people than only me are interested in this as Activity 2.0 looks really interesting but is next to useless if we dont understand how to make it show up the stuff that CB activity 1.0 does.

Right now you can't configure any of that. The CB Auto Actions action has not been upgraded for CB Activity 3.0.0. It won't be until Stable as I'm still adjusting the API.

CB Activity previously only tracked about 10 different activities. CB Auto Actions will be able to track all of them and more quite easily once the new CB Activity action has been created. Any plugins that need specialized tracking will have CB Activity API implemented directly into them for a new release. Again, none of this is happening or is doable until CB Activity 3.0.0 is stable.

Regardless CB Activity 3.0.0 RC1 is not useless. It provides full stream capability (meaning you can post a status and users can comment on it). If you are not comfortable with the current state of CB Activity then don't use it and wait for a Stable release. Do not expect full functionality in an RC. RC2 should be out next week and an RC3 is also planned.

I was just wondering how come that CB action could do stuff since the activity has not reached a stable state.

I will wait until the other actions can be integrated as well.
