Firstly a very big thank you for the work done to get this great feature up and running :)

I originally installed rc1 on my live site www.clubmotorhome.co.uk/members-chat.html just to try it myself and have now installed rc2 and publicised it to my site members. Quite a few have added content to the timeline and it's working really well.

Immediate feedback highlights 3 things:

1. No notifications when a users post gets added to. This means having to continually scroll through to manually see if anything is new.

2. No photo upload facility. Photos can only be included in a post if they are already hosted elsewhere and a url link used to the image.

3. I have added a custom html module as a page header to introduce the timeline feature as there doesn't seem to be a way to do this otherwise.

I realise this is very early days with CB Activity but I just wondered whether these features will be added sometime (soon) :)

Thanks again for what's been done so far.

Replied by krileon on topic CB Activity progress

1. No notifications when a users post gets added to. This means having to continually scroll through to manually see if anything is new.

Notifications aren't being implemented until CB Notifications has been developed. It'll be a new plugin to provide 3 notification methods (on-site, built in PMS, and email). It has its own subset of features it'll have to provide a range of notification usability and can be utilized by our other plugins.

Then the bigger issue is who to notify. Sending notifications based off Recent Activity could go very wrong very fast (if you've 100,000 users sending that many notifications is not realistic) so notifications will likely be limited to your connections only. It's possible to send a PM/Email now to your connections if you wrote the code for it using a Code action in CB Auto Actions though.

2. No photo upload facility. Photos can only be included in a post if they are already hosted elsewhere and a url link used to the image.

Uploading directly from the stream is planned to be provided by CB Gallery. Utilizing CB Activity triggers it'll be able to add this relatively easily. This won't be implemented for awhile though as CB Activity needs to reach Stable first then a few plugins need some minor releases and then I need to turn my attention to upgrading GJ. So a feature release of CB Gallery with this in it won't be until the GJ upgrade is done.

3. I have added a custom html module as a page header to introduce the timeline feature as there doesn't seem to be a way to do this otherwise.

You can modify the CB Activity template, post directly to the stream, or use a module as you're already doing. I'm not adding a parameter just to add a page description, sorry.
