I am using CB 2.0.10 on a J! 3.4.3 installation. I have used the setting auto generate passwords upon registration - but it does not work. When a user is accepted they cannot log in!?? Wrong username/password alert. I copy pasted the password from the pending mail. I am using email as username (Set in configuration).
If you're generating passwords and you have approval or confirmation enabled you need to also send the password with the Welcome email as the once sent in Pending is temporary.

In your case the pending email doesn't need to contain [DETAILS] at all and just needs the confirm link. Welcome email should contain [DETAILS] as you're generating a password for them. Regardless [password] should work though.
