Thanks anyway..I had tried that previously i.e. the the cb tools instruction, as per linked post at the beginning. The affected table type is either mediumtext or text.
I'm going to delete all unused fields and see if that helps. I guess bug #4946 remians and what a nasty little bug it is.
I'm moving servers anyway, arv... are useless lately, maybe I'll find one with better (not quite sure really), better database limitations maybe.
