PHP version - how new is too new? was created by mikerotec
I'm still waiting on the scoop from Joomla forums, but in the meantime, thought I had also better ask here....

Currently running PHP 5.4.x

Are there any issues in current CB (& CBsubs) if PHP language is upgraded to version 5.6?

How about CBSubs 3.0.0 running on CB 1.9.1 ?

If you're on PHP 5.4+ you really need to be using CB 2.x and CBSubs 4.x. They both have been updated to fix all the strict standards warnings and more. I have not tested CB on PHP 5.6. My development environment is PHP 5.5, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine.

Well, Joomla 3.x already supports PHP5.6, and so do the three other frameworks we use.
The Joomla dev team advises that J4.x (spring 2017, perhaps!) is being built to minimum PHP 5.6.9, and advise that everyone should be on-board the 5.6 train well before then.
So I have taken the plunge and yesterday upgraded our DEV server to PHP5.6

Now in the process of testing everything, and it's looking so far, so good.

Next up will be upgrading our DEV CB and CBsubs to latest versions. (I have been avoiding this upgrade for some time, since frankly the process is looking extremely finicky, time-consuming, and onerous!)

But I guess I'll be able to report on "CB-PHP5.6 compatibility" soon.

Is there a "CB" upgrade process checklist document? I see there is a 12 minute video, would be nice to have the necessary steps on paper...

There's the video, the CB 2.0 Primer Book, and several tips around the forums. The best I can suggest is disable anything integrating with CB (e.g. K2 CB integration parameter, Kunena CB integration plugin, etc..). This includes the CBSubs system plugin and the admin module. Next unpublish all non-core CB plugins. Then do the upgrade. This will avoid any possible conflicts and allow the upgrade to go smoothly.
