Integrating GroupJive with Kunena is a bit tricky because it is essentially changing the way the Kunena Forums appear to users.

By default if I create a Group (integrated with Kunena) and have the attribute OPEN (for access purposes) then the Group discussion (and any subcategories) will not appear to Kunena forums unless the user is a member of that Group. In a situation where a Group is private (limited members and hidden from others) then this would probably be OK. However in other situations where a user is not member it is a problem not to even see the discussions on the main Kunena screen.

I suppose this can be changed from inside Kunena by changing the Access from ‘communitybuilder’ to ‘joomla.level’. Will this affect however the GJ proper integration of those discussions?

I can't control the individual functionality of Kunena from GJ. So what you're wanting is not possible. Do not change the access of a groups forum category (it'll be corrected on next group save anyway). Ideally Open/Approval should allow read access, but not write access; Invite should completely block access. However, Kunena does not provide a trigger for me to do this so the entire access has to be blocked.
