Is it possible to assign a cb field based on a usergroup? I want connections and pm to only be assigned on certain group profiles (I have a usergroup called Deceased and it looks a bit stupid having Send Private Message and Request Connection on these profiles!).

You can place such fields in a separate tab and configure the tab for any ACL group you want.
CB Conditional can also condition fields based off view access level or usergroups. CB Privacy can also too to an extent.
