It's best to upgrade a clone of your site before upgrading your live site. This will give you an idea of exactly what to expect. Please keep in mind this is a migration and not just a simple upgrade. A lot has changed between CB 1.x and CB 2.x. Expect to likely have some issues, which is why it's important to make backups and be aware of what to expect by upgrading a clone first. I recommend the below steps.

1. Full backup (file and db)
2. Disable any CB integrations (kunena, k2, etc..)
3. Disable any CB system plugins (cb core redirect, cbsubs, etc..)
4. Update all CB plugins to their latest CB 1.x releases (see our archives folder for older releases)
5. Update CB
6. Update CB plugins to CB 2.x releases
7. Re-enable your CB integrations
