Where to see Gallery plugin on Forge was created by timstohr
Hello,
I wanted to see where I can see what features the gallery plugin will have in the near feature. The thing is that I am currently battling with the simbunch gallery extension , which has the right ideas but the end-user will find it a bit fumbling ( www.simbunch.com/demos/simgallery ).

Especially it allows automatic resizing before upload and profile picture crop which is especially what I am looking for. Furthermore, the chosen privacy setting is also quite cool...

I've just blogged about the upcoming rewrite of CB Gallery below.

www.joomlapolis.com/blog/kyle/18696-what-s-next-for-cb-gallery

Privacy controls will still not be implemented until I've done another rewrite of CB Privacy to improve its API which will be able to privacy control CB Gallery properly. Currently CB Privacy API isn't to a point where it can extend other plugins reliably.

It uses the same image processing the image fields are capable of.

Sounds very good.

If possible the CROP image selection that Facebook uses would be great to have as well. My users cannot see what part of the photo will be cropped out and that is quite annoying (For reference, try changing your profile picture on FB and you will see what I mean).

Otherwise, I also would like to see "categories" to which certain ACLs can upload quite useful. For example, if I want to make a photo competition, users upload their pictures to an album (using a module, you can then give access to this profile on eg: your homepage with the title "Vote for the cutest dog of our members!"... btw that would also need the rating field to be displayable on the gallery, different rating fields being assignable by category as you don't want to implement a star rating field next to the image of your grandma, but only on the category of your choosing...) That would be awesome to have.

For the moment, I will implement the simbunch gallery (as I have just solved one of the major problems that I was battling with) and then switch over to the CB one.

No, it doesn't do cropping at all unless you select for that as the aspect ratio setting. CB Gallery doesn't need that sort of functionality (crops nothing as it's a gallery.. cropping photos would defeat the point). Cropping usage is planned for image fieldtypes as it has its uses for the canvas and avatar displays.

You're referencing Facebook, but Facebook does not crop Photos. It only has the crop selection for profile image and canvas only.

Otherwise, I also would like to see "categories" to which certain ACLs can upload quite useful. That would be awesome to have.

Albums have no access controls and they will never have access controls beyond privacy, but as privacy has rules for view access levels and usergroups that would be how you'd do it once support for privacy controls on files and albums is implemented. There is create access permissions per gallery. I suppose you could just have a gallery that's separate from profile gallery with whatever access you want. There is no rating functionality and no plans to implement rating functionality, but triggers are available to extend the modal window with new functionality so I suppose you could add rating usage there somehow.

Just re-read the commenting function inclusion into CB Gallery.

Problem: not possible to give notifications for commenting as auto-action is not able to send to users email address directly (only to PM).

Wait... what exactly is the PM system? does it simply mean email sent by the website from to User A ?

There's just a trigger output in the modal window here CB Activity can render a comment stream using CB Auto Actions. There's no commenting directly implemented in CB Gallery it self.

Problem: not possible to give notifications for commenting as auto-action is not able to send to users email address directly (only to PM).

CB Auto Actions can send emails with the Email action or PMs using the Private Message action. UddeIM supports notifications for PMs so you could send a PM and let UddeIM notify them or use the Email action to directly send an email. There's triggers for comments being made as well (already exists in CB Activity).

Wait... what exactly is the PM system? does it simply mean email sent by the website from to User A ?

Private Messages like with UddeIM. Has nothing to do with emails.
