CB Activity other users posting was created by LineMine
Hi
I'm intending to use the CB Activity plugin purely as a posting facility on a profile, where users in certain user groups can post regular updates which can be quickly accessed via their profile. I'm wondering if there is any simple way of preventing other users in the same group adding posts to an activity stream which isn't their own? Its not a really big deal if this is impossible, but I think I would prefer it.
Thanks.

Profile activity can be posted on by the profile owner and by the connections of that profile owner. If they've no connections or connections are disabled it'll behave as you're wanting. Additional parameters are planned to further control the access in a later release.

Hi
This aspect of CB Activity is looking absolutely ideal for the use I want, and I'd like to say again how much I appreciate all the work that has gone into CB. I keep finding things it can do which I need, and this is really down to the huge range of options and potential that has been built into the extension and plugins.

I just want to clarify a few things on CB Activity. I've tried finding this in the forum or in the documentation, but no luck so far, so my apologies for asking really simple stuff here, but its pretty crucial for my site that I get this straight.

Assuming I've just enabled the posting option in CB Activity, and I have 2 user groups, say Ants and Bees. The Ants have posting permission, but the Bees do not. Ants can post on each others Activity streams, as long as they are connected (I have set Mutual Consent and Cross connections to No at the moment, to allow users to establish one way connections easily, similar to following a profile). Otherwise Ants can just post on their own profiles, which can be read by both Ants and Bees when they visit the profile.

If a Bee is connected to an Ant, the Activity posts of the Ant will appear under the Activity tab in the Bee's profile.

This last point is very important, as it gives the site a facility I really need. It means that a Bee can build up multiple post streams from Ants, which can just be read easily by visiting the profile of the user.

If you could just confirm this is how it works I'd be very grateful.

Thanks again.

Yes, that's exactly how it works. If 2 users are connected when they view their own profile streams they will see the activity of each other. If another user views their profile they'll only see that profiles activity. Basically it's exactly like your Facebook stream in that regard. The way the access checks work for profile streams are first the Create Access is checked and if that passes it checks if the users are connected and if that passes then they can post/comment.

The connections limitation is hardcoded in though and can't be turned off without turning off connections. That doesn't really affect your usage, but it's an FYI a parameter will be added to ignore the connections check. Additional a "follow" feature is planned to allow pulling in activity to your stream without being connected.
