Setting up

Setting up was created by ScribbledPages
Hi all,

I've never used CB before (always used JomSocial), but I have purchased the pro membership. I've installed everything, but I can't get any of the plugins to work, can't get private messaging to work, can't install Kunena etc.

I've tried monkeying with the settings myself, but since I don't have any experience, I have no idea what I should or should not be doing.

Can someone give me a step by step guide to setting up the core component, and all plugins?

Thanks!

Tamara

Suggest you download and go through the CB Primer Book - it will help you integrate private messaging (uddeIM must be installed) and forum integration (Kunena needed).

There are also many video tutorials available on our youtube channel:

Thanks. I just watched the video about tabs though, and apparently, I was doing the right things. Tabs are not showing up in the tabs menu position, even if I publish them there.

This is VERY frustrating, compared to JomSocial, which is simple to set up.

Thought I might have screwed something up, so I reinstalled comprofiler. Now I am getting this:

Fatal error: Access level to CBfield_textarea::_fieldEditToHtml() must be public (as in class cbFieldHandler) in /home4/piggibax/public_html/scribbledpages.com/components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbcore/cb.core.php on line 225

I need simple, step by step instructions please. That's why I paid for this package!

Hi again.

Uninstalled and reinstalled. Going to work through the book and see if I've missed anything. If not, I'll be back for more info!

Thanks!

CB isn't as easy to setup, because it provides more features. That's what it's always going to boil down to. More features means more complexity. We'll probably have quickstart packages available again in the future which pre-configure a basic install for you automatically. In addition to that we'll continue to further improve the UI (suggestions welcomed!).

For now it's a matter of taking the time to become familiar with core CB it self (e.g. creating your first tab and adding a field to it, etc..). Once you've installed a plugin it won't work unless it has been published first, which is done within CB > Plugin Management as we do not auto-publish newly installed plugins. How you access those plugins depends entirely on the plugin it self so I'm unsure what you mean by none of them work. CB Gallery for example after installed and published will have a gallery tab directly on your profile already and is ready to use.

Basic step by step instructions are in the CB Primer Book and the video tutorials Nick has linked you are step by step. We can't really suggest anything further until you describe what goal you're trying to achieve and what exactly you're having problems with. Setting up "all plugins" is simply too vague as each plugin provides different functionality.
