Well, re-enabled the versionMgr, then turned system editor to None.

Now 30 times faster! (that step has dropped from 30,000 mS to 1,000 mS):

What's the "best practice" Joomla editor, in your opinion?
We were using JCE for a long time but had to remove it last year due to an unsolvable conflict with Advanced Module Manager :-(

I just use TinyMCE when I need an editor, but I prefer None to be honest and supply my own HTML. I dislike WYSIWYG editors, because they have a tendency to alter my HTML using JS for some reason and often breaking my code. JCE is probably best if configured to properly.

Just to follow up - CBsubs settings page loads OK with TinyMCE - it adds only about 300mS to "editor: None" (see below)

So the Ark Editor was really not getting along with that page (or viceversa). Very odd that it doesnt seem to have any noticeable slowing effect on any other pages (frontend or backend). I'm going to have to do some more testing to verify that.

As far as our site goes, I like the users to have the most bare-bones editor for classifieds postings, so TinyMCE is OK for that.
Kunena has its own editor, which is nice enough. The only place i would miss Ark is blogs and articles (not editable by users, just admin).
Ark was really pleasant fordoing those. But TinyMCE looks "serviceable".

Update... tested ArkEditor vs. TinyMCE all over the front end, (cleared caches before switching) and found no significant difference in load times, even on pages that actually use the editor.

So whatever the 'Ark-editor' 30X slowdown issue is, it is apparently VERY specific to something on the CBsubs settings page!

(load times test results...)

It could probably be related with the number of Ark editors of the page. Please see the reason with the developers of the Ark editor.

Makes sense... Ark probably not optimized for multiple instances.

Thanks for your help!
