Hi everyone,
i have a list with serveral thousand customers and I want them to subscribe to my website. The website is a pure "members only" site and registration is mandatory in order to see the content. Since I do not have the written permission to contact them via email, I want to send them a personalized letter by post.
What I want to do:
For every customer on my list, I create an inactive profile by importing their data into community builder along with a pre-defined personal code.
The letter, I want to send to these customers, contains this code and the user must enter it at the site. After entering the code, his profile is displayed which he must complete (I don't have all the data I need) and after completion, the profile will be activated and the user can access the site.
Can this be done with communtiy builder?
Best Regards
Markus

Easiest way to do this is to use CB Invites and set the Invite Code field to display on registration and be required. Next within CB Invites > Invites create new invites to a dummy email address (e.g. tomjohns@cb.invalid). You can then mail them the invite code shown in CB Invites > Invites. An alternative is to have a custom database of maybe more simple (e.g. 5 character) invite codes that you can validate with CB Query Field to ensure the code they supplied exists in the database.

I don't really see how what you're wanting to do is going to work beyond putting that unique code as their password then mailing them the card basically with their password on it. They'd then login and continue from there. I suggest using the invite code method though as having their data on your site without their consent would be a problem for a lot of people.

Thank you Krileon,
I think your concern about our customers' reaction to this is justified. I'll try the CB_invites way first.
Best Regards
Markus
