I am using a custom template for CB gallery where I have modified the files item_container.php and items.php. My problem is right now that i can overwrite all other files in the template folder, except the gallery.php file and then my layout still works, but when I overwrite the gallery.php (with the new version), i get this error:

Call to a member function getLimitBox() on array

- so I need to know what has changed except from the bootstrap changes - has something structurel in the code classes also changed ??

I managed to fix this on my own.

You'll need to compare your custom template files to defaults (using a diff program will make this easier) and update your custom template files since all the classes have in the HTML have been updated to Bootstrap 4.
