Update Best Practices was created by Spiralmind
Hello, I am not able to find anything by searching for this question.

What is the best practice for updating the CB core and plugins along with Joomla updates?

Do I update the plugins first, then the CB core, then Joomla? Or is there some other sequence that is recommended?

Also, how backwards compatible is the whole CB system in general? I have a lot of customizations and am super paranoid these updates will break something.

Thank you

What is the best practice for updating the CB core and plugins along with Joomla updates?

You can update CB and its plugins using the Update All button in CB > Plugin Management > Install New Plugin > Install from Web. Aside from that Joomla > CB > CB Plugins would be the typical order.

Also, how backwards compatible is the whole CB system in general?

We either maintain backwards compatibility of various features or we implement migration as part of the install process to migrate to the new usage. It's not often a feature is just completely removed without a replacement.

I have a lot of customizations and am super paranoid these updates will break something.

As long as you're not modifying core files you should be fine.

That's typically what I do, yes.
