Why do you need to delete old private messages? Are they causing performance problems for you? Our PMS has been performance tested with over 1 million private messages perfectly fine.
CB Activity has clean up because activity isn't exactly critical for communication, but is for social engagement and old entries are unlikely to ever been seen again after a period of time.
Regardless yes it's possible to implement your own cleanup behavior using a Query action and writing the necessary query to delete messages older than X datetime. You'd then use CRON or Joomla 4 (if using J4) task scheduler to schedule the auto action URL to run regularly.
