Hi,
I am having difficulty finding instant chat (messaging) functionality in CB. Does it exist? Maybe I am missing something, please advise. 
If the functionality must be added via a 3rd-party extension, please suggest a few that are compatible with Joomla 5.x.

We don't provide chat, but we do provide messaging via Private Message System plugin in CB > Plugin Management. If published you should see the menu option above the users profile on the CB Menu plugins Menu tab to message them. CB 3.x will be rewriting the PMS plugin into a live chat system.
