I am not the developer of AcyMailing. I cannot help you with AcyMailing queries. You should consult with them regarding this. This is a standard EXISTS subquery and it absolutely supports joins. Below is an example based off your earlier post, but again I'm not familiar with AcyMailing data structure so I've no clue if this is correct or not.
Code:
EXISTS( SELECT 1 FROM `#__acym_user_has_list` AS acy INNER JOIN `acym_user` acyu ON acyu.`id` = acy.`user_id` WHERE acy.`list_id` = 1 AND acy.`status` = 1 AND acyu.`user_id` = u.`id` )
Querying directly in phpmyadmin is not the same as adding an AND statement to an existing query. The developers of AcyMailing can probably suggest a more accurate and performant query based off their data structure.

For everyone, who might have the same or a similar problem in the future, here is the working sql - at least, it worked for me:
Code:
EXISTS( SELECT 1 FROM `#__acym_user_has_list` AS haslist INNER JOIN `#__acym_user` acyuser ON acyuser.`id` = haslist.`user_id` WHERE haslist.`list_id` = 1 AND haslist.`status` = 1 AND acyuser.`cms_id` = u.`id` )
Ah, sorry for the confusion. I meant joins on the userlist query itself. Inside of a subquery is fine.
