CB gallery image quality could be better

I've implemented client side anti-aliasing (smoothing) for future CB Gallery 3.0.0 release to improve client side resizing. Since this release is mid-development this feature won't be available until then, which maybe awhile from now still. For now I recommend disabling client side resizing for your usecase and then having ImageMagick setup on your host for higher quality server side compression.

Have enabled ImageMagick. Here's a side by side comparison with GD on the left, ImageMagick on the right, no server side resizing in either case. ImageMagick is definitely better than GD, with fewer artifacts visible. Not quite as sharp as the original, but much better than where we started! Thanks for you help.

 

I'm working on adding a parameter in CB > Configuration > Images to let you explicitly set the image quality globally as well. Currently the library we're using uses system default, which is usually 75%. With this parameter you'll be able to set it to 90% for example for better quality at the trade off of larger file sizes.

A new CB build release is now available with support for adjusting server side compression quality. Within CB > Configuration > Images you'll see a new "Default Image Quality" parameter where you can adjust the compression quality globally. On GD it doesn't make a substantial difference, but it likely will on ImageMagik. Note increasing quality means larger files size. Default system quality is generally 75% and leaving it blank will just use whatever the system quality is.
