CB Gallery 3.0: Search in albums from all users ?

I am looking for a simple and elegant solution to have a dynamic gallery based on the "search  by Media" toggle in CB gallery...

This toggle allow users to write keywords ( i.e not parsed hashtags) in description of their photos ( example #landscape #portrait....) . The search in the gallery works perfectly for this for each user.... I like it.

So, I am wondering if there is a simple way to have in addition a single gallery gathering in a dynamic way all photos from all albums from of all users. I tried to illustrate this. I don't know how it is possible ( specific gallery or autoaction ?). As media, we only upload photos reguiring albums and there is no privacy for albums ( all can be viewed by all users, only owner can upload in his gallery)

(Note: I do not will to use the smart search because the result rendering does not fit with the need to display photos and not links and i let the use of hashtag searches for other purposes if it is implemented in future CB Gallery plugin.)

 

 

It's possible to create a gallery in CB Gallery > Galleries that displays albums and media from all users, but there's no way to search by user.

To display media from all users the easiest approach is just make a copy of the "Profile Gallery" gallery. Next set the asset of the copy to "gallery.1" so it inherits most settings from the profile gallery. Finally under Filters add "profile.%" to Display > Include > Assets so it includes all profile gallery media. If you've other profile galleries (gallery fields) in use you may want to also add "1" to Display > Include > Galleries so it's restricted to that gallery. That Filters tab is entirely responsible for what displays.

Will review adding search by user somehow in a future release. Probably something like @username or @name. Basically allowing mentions in the search bar to search by user. I've no plans to implement this anytime soon though, sorry, but will make a feature ticket so I don't forget.

Joomla smart search results are entirely customizable. Override the layout from your Joomla template and adjust the HTML to whatever you like.

Thank you so much Kyle, I understood the way, i did it and it works perfectly ! 

My primary need is to be able to use the "search media" within all albums in one shot ( this is why i was thinking about gathering all photos in one album). Currently I have now the bunch of albums but i can use only the "search albums" not "search media" at this level. Do you think there is a solution to "search media" in all photos from all albums ?
 

To search media in all albums you'd need to use Joomla smart search. There isn't a way to do that in CB Gallery as to search media in an album you must navigate into an album first. Will add a feature ticket to review adding a view that flattens media. Basically doesn't render albums, but only renders media regardless of the album. I don't know when I'll have this implemented though.

OK. A bit dispointed that it is not possible today but i keep hope it will be implemented because it is of a prime importance for the community of photographer to get easily a "filtered all galleries" view using keyword (or hashtag or flair, whatever). For sure the best solution (regarding my own needs) should be to flatten all galleries as you said because the rendering by grid or masonry is the most appropriate ! 

So, as a question, do you think a developper can easily create a code for me to do this 'flattering' to allow the search within all albums waiting for the CB Gallery v4 ?
Alternatives (but descoped for me) : to have parsed hashtags in description of media. Other alternative you mention: adapt the result of smart search to display directly the photos but i do not like so much...
 

It just depends on what functionality you need exactly and where. The CB Gallery Module with its Media mode can flatten galleries, but it has no pagination and no searching. So it can for example render media from multiple galleries and flattened, but it's meant to do so with a static amount of entries.

If you need the full functionality of the gallery like searching, paging, etc.. it's just not possible to flatten the galleries right now. That's hardcoded in behavior that can't be changed with a trigger so it would require core code modifications. I'll take a look at that feature ticket sometime tomorrow as maybe I can get that implemented rather quickly. I don't know yet as I haven't assessed it yet as am currently working on another feature for CB Activity.

For now smart search is the best option here for searchability across multiple galleries and albums. I don't have a better solution to immediately offer.
