I just noticed that a user account had 8 notifications displayed with the icon ( which seems consistent with the number of events triggering notifications), but while opening the modal box, only 2 are displayed even if i click on the "see all" link.
Any thoughts ?
The count is a fast count. It won't take into account notification grouping. For example if you uploaded 5 photos, that's 5 notifications, but notification grouping may merge those into 1. The count also doesn't take into consideration server side aggregation removing rows due to on-render access checks either as it can't without being incredibly slow and slowing down your site. In short this is perfectly normal.
