Groupjive Issue

Hello,
We would like to ask you for help with our new project where we experience a problem with Groupjive plugin.

It is important for us to show all created groups in a category as public which is facilitated by type of category/group called „Approval“, but no user should be allowed to see contents of group tabs such as Group wall, photos, files, events and also Activity stream, outside the members of such groups – which is provided by category Invited.

The problem is connected to GDPR because our project is continuously checked by our competition and we cannot allow ourselves any mistakes. :) We are not able to achieve such results in any way without the need to modify the component, which is a potentioal problem because we could not make updates.

Are you able to help us, please? Thank you.

Frantisek

Public and Approval groups content is always visible. Only Invite type groups have private content until joined. There is no functionality for what you're wanting. This is planned to change in a future release where new group types will be added and Approval content will be hidden until joined (similar to Invite except the group is visible). I do not have a timeframe for this change, but sounds like you should be using Invite types only if this is a concern.

Regarding GDPR. You'd need to consult with a specialist. It entirely depends on what you intend to use those groups for. For example Article 2 "by a natural person in the course of a purely personal or household activity;" exception excludes a lot of things. For example the user joining the group is considered consent. The user posting to the group is considered consent. It gets into a gray area if User A joins Group B and posts a photo of Person A (and is identifiable from that photo) unrelated to User A, but that would be a potential issue no matter the group being public or private.
