Sorry, just to add one more frustrating but interesting fact is that the send message works and loads on my pc at home via IE running on Vista. Could it be that my pc at the office runs on XP?
Maybe you have installed some 3rd party tools on your XP or the firewall does some filtering and/or modifies/sanitizes the html code. There are several possible reasons. Maybe you ask your IT if they intercept html traffic in some way.

i am actually so sorry for not being able to give a clearer question and actually asking the question when no answer will actually be the all time answer. From the post i read on Microsoft, it would seem that it was actually an XP thing that you have to install hotfixes / patches from, but that is only what i understand. i'm just glad that it still works in Vista IE. not too sure what the ratio of XP users to Vista users are, but with Windows 7 i think XP users have slimmed down a bit and those using it probably have the patches.
