Restrict userlist to managers and above

I've checked the FAQs and can't see that this has been covered previously.

On a site I am designing, registered users do not use any private messaging. In fact the only people who do use private messaging are editors and above. With this in mind, I want to restrict the userlist displayed when "Show Users" is selected so that it only includes editors and above. Is this possible either as a configuration option or by amending the code directly?

There is currently no way to restrict the userlist to special users only.

You can open a feature request on the tracker. It sounds to be a good idea for very big sites.

Is there anyway of amending the code to achieve what I want to? Could you point me to the file that contains the code to populate that list? Alternatively, could I create a script to remove anyone below editor from the userlist table or alternatively to add all registered users to the block table?

Thats not so easy so there is no quick fix for that. You can already hide certains groups (e.g. all admins or all special users) or single users from the list but this is not what you want.

Create an entry on the tracker and when I find time over Xmas I will try to find a solution for that.
