For some reason it seems that information on a computer screen is supposed to be more "accessible" the larger the characters, and the larger the space between fields, is.
A contributing factor might be that developers are working on really large screens, so screen real estate is not a big issue for them.
You can see this screen area being wasted everywhere on the internet. In really bad applications they provide the information so "thinned out" that you have to switch to a new page to see it all. Even if we are talking about a relatively small set of fields and rows.
There may be individuals that become "overwhelmed" if there are to many characters at once on the screen. But I do not think that any backend users belong to that category.
So please, try to use the screen area more effectively (without overdoing it).
Developers, please verify how a page works on a typical portable computer screen already in the design phase.
Screen area efficiency is crucial to experienced users.
