As far as I am aware there is no work around for this. The rating for Profilebook is stored with the message it self so by deleting the message you also delete the comment. This can be good and bad given the situation. If someone is spam posting they could spam rating and would give just cause the delete both comment and rating.
I recommend disabling the rating capability of the profilebook and using the rating field instead; this makes it a separate system from the profilebook.
