Having same issue. Is it not possible to use HTTPS for registration as well as for the setting in CBlogin?

CB 2.3, CBsubs 4.3, PHP 7.1, J! 3.9.X

You can use HTTPS for registration perfectly fine, but you need to ensure live_site is blank with configure.php and also ensure you've purged site cache so users aren't sent to HTTP version of your site on POST.

isn't the live_site variable used by a lot of extensions?

Yes, it's supposed to be blank so Joomla populates it automatically. If you force it then it'll always pass exactly what you supplied. This means if you supplied it as http it'll never pass as https.

what's the issue when after you login the site stays in HTTPS even though you have it set in the CBlogin module to go back to what it was?

There is no switch back. That's a bug we decided not to fix as it's not appropriate. Once it sends the user to HTTPS it'll stay HTTPS to avoid cross content browser warnings when switching back. We didn't remove the parameter because it'd break peoples modules that have it already set. It'll be removed with CB 2.x.
