Plain Text vs HTML text in eMails was created by aquadir
The emails being generated from CB - for example for Friend Requests - are containing some HTML characters in it like:

"Friend Request Accepted![\\b]

NOTE: This is a message generated automatically by the PlanetHop! Friends System. It has the requesting PlanetHopper\'s! address, so you can conveniently reply if you wish to.\n\nYour request to become friends with IngusA was accepted!\\n

Manage Friends\nn"

How do I send emails in HTML, so they don't contain the above characters?

I am using CB 1.8 on Joomla 1.5.26

Are you sure these are emails and not private messages?

You are most likely referring to private messages and if you are using uddeIM, then you need to configure it properly as described in our new Picture-book tutorial here:

No, these are not Private Message through UDDE-IM.
They are Friend Requests through CB, using the Menu Link at the top of CB Profile page.

That looks like a UddeIM PM notification. Disable email notifications within UddeIM then try again and you probably won't receive anything.

You're not disabling UddeIM. You'd be disabling the new PM email notification that UddeIM sends. Please see "Allow e-mail notification" within Joomla > Components > uddeIM PMS > E-mail.
