[SOLVED] error with FireFox browser and https://

12 years 1 month ago - 12 years 3 weeks ago #216217 by mothersofboys
HI

I have a joomla 1.5.26 site running CB 1.8 with CB Subs 1.3.0

( I know it needs to be upgraded, we'll get there )

domain is
www.mothersofboysonline.com

I recently moved the site from iPage to Bluehost.
and when that happened, when using FireFox 16.0.2 to view/admin the site on my laptop, I keep getting the "this site is untrusted, are you sure you want to go here?" error
and the url has changed to included the S so it becomes h-t-t-p-s://mothersofboysonline.com. ( I added the dashes so the chat forum wouldn't automatically convert the URL to a link )

I have cleared my cache and temporary files 2x and it still does this.

I don't get this error with Chrome or IE

I don't have an SSL installed on this site, yet, as when it was on iPage, iPage offers blanket https:// coverage for all their sites. Bluehost does not.

I am still able to process transactions through my PayPal gateway.

My server/host confirms that OpenSSL is installed and has given me the path which matches what iPage had and was/is configured on the site.
usr/bin/openssl

What could be causing this browser warning? Is this something that will clear up when I get the SSL installed?

It's been over a year since I installed and configured this site so I'm a little rusty on all the SSL requirements, etc...

Thanks
LrG

You have an https redirect on your host or in htaccess. Please also ensure live_site is '' (blank) within configuration.php.

If you're using CBSubs and attempting to do a dummy gateway purchase then it defaults the credit card page to https, which you can disable within CBSubs > Settings > Credit-cards then set "User login session on https switchover:" to "Keep user logged-in also in http" and "Credit-Card Form http(s) mode:" to "HTTP (insecure mode for test only (not allowed for real use)". Note this should be done only for testing and not for real purchases. Off site payment gateways (PayPal for example) don't require HTTPS while on site do (Authorize.net).

HI

just checked my config file - it's blank

checked my .htaccess file -- no edits there either

not doing any dummy gateway purchases either

so if using PayPal for gateway - do i even need to purchase an SSL for this site at all ?

thanks

No, off-site payment gateways don't need SSL as they handle all that for you.

On what pages specifically are you experiencing this issue?

so my hosting company, Bluehost, redirects to

for sites that dont have an SSL installed (like mine)...

now today - i went to log in with my front page site login (CB Login)

it took me here...

*https://mothersofboysonline.com/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/~motherw6/join/login

!!

Is there a part of CB that is making the site redirect to https?

It's not in my .htaccess

The site has openSSL configured right

Bluehost has no idea either why this is only happening in Firefox and not Chrome and not IE. and only on my laptop.

at this point I am just going to pay the money for an SSL and dedicated IP and hopefully that will fix this problem?!?

I can provide access if anyone wants to try to help :)

<< all this started with a move to new hosting company. so I think it mostly lies with the hosting company. But is there a part of CB that is causing the site to want to open in https:// and not just http: ?? >>

Thanks

CB can cause login to use HTTPS if you set your CB login module to do so. Edit all your CB login modules and see if you've set it to login with HTTPS.

CBSubs will also redirect to HTTPS, but only on credit card payment pages and only if configured do so, but as you're just using PayPal this won't be an issue.

You may also want to check if you have a login redirect somewhere (configured in CB login module, configured in any of your CBSubs plans, or maybe through CB Auto Actions) that has live site appended instead of beginning as index.php and has https:// in it.
