Upwards migration question

Upwards migration question was created by lincolnsuncity
We are moving up from joomla 1.5x and an older version of community builder with a new template.

Will there be any issues if I simply export the database from our currrent site and import it into the new site?

Thank you.

You can't export and import from J1.5 to J2.5 or J3.0 as the database structures are completely different. You need to use a migration tool or you're going to have to manually correct all your database export queries to work with the new database structures. I suggest jUpgrade for a complete migration. If you want to just export/import your CB users I suggest CB Juice.

Are you telling me the CB databases are different or Joomla? We also depend heavily on group jive.

Would I be best to upgrade the existing site to the latest version of CB, then export the tables to the new site?

I already have CB (and the other functionality) installed on the new site, since I have rebuilt the template, the design and extensions from scratch.

The big question is finding the best approach to reworking community builder without breaking the present site.

CB stores access permission parameters for Tabs, Plugins, and various CB plugins to the database. Those access values are 100% different on J2.5 compared to J1.5. If you directly move database tables (which you can if you want) then all those access parameters will be wrong and you'll need to go through your entire installation and fix them. The custom migration script I wrote for jUpgrade to migrate CB data fixes all those permissions for you, assuming they didn't remove it from latest jUpgrade releases.

Sorry to sound dense ... but can I use that script on joomla 1.5x to port the information over to 2.5x?

And, do I need to upgrade cb as well, first?

Also, where do I find the script and instructions?

Thanks for all your help.

No the script is designed for jUpgrade usage. It's not a script that can be ran standalone.

And, do I need to upgrade cb as well, first?

Yes, it's best to upgrade CB and its plugins first before migrating.

Also, where do I find the script and instructions?

Again, you don't it's a part of jUpgrade; just run jUpgrade.
