Well you first need to make sure that connection credentials are ok.

I am sure that phpBB should have a configuration file somewhere that contains database settings.

Also you should investigate the method rokbridge is using to integrate Joomla with phpBB.

FOr example are userids preserved or is there a mapping table somewhere?

For testing :

I log on the website with CB Login module
I click on the link "My profile"
I click on "Change my profile"
On the field "Race" I change my selection.
I save

After I go on forum.
I go on my profile
I chack the personalized field "Race" if they change. (but no change)

For the Rokbridge, I dont know really hot it works... unfortunably...
