"Please understand what you are using is not a Filter. You're using Sort By. That just sorts the User List. It does not filter it down in any way."

OK got it thank you. :woohoo:

Actually sorting by one column is enough for me for the moment.

Sorting "Tools of Trade" alphabetically is pretty meaningless as it just gives me a list of people sorted according to the tools they use. As an eg everyone on the first page uses Adobe Premiere for the simple reason that is the first tool in the list. I might need to look at some thing else like number of years or last update for a more meaningful list.

Also another disadvantage is that it turns my 713 User List into a 48 User List!

But this is very useful information and I could use it for filtering Users with Avatar or similar in the future! So thanks you, all the same.

The URL think. Yeah I missed that.

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=usersList&listid=4

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=usersList&listid=4&searchmode=1

For the record could you please advise how do I switch from one URL to the other?

I am looking at the Search options here

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=usersList&listid=4&searchmode=1

and it really does not make sense to Search for some one for example in Berlin with options like… "Include all of" or "Include any of." Like I am really looking for some one in Berlin or in Beijing. Or some one who can edit on Avid or Final Cut etc. In my case it is pretty black and white.

That is why I really like the "Vote Exchange" example.

www.vote-exchange.org/community

I have understood that:

The User List is a list. And that I can decide to show certain fields on the list. I can change the order of the sorting eliminate empty columns and no doubt much more…

Also understood:

"It's a Joomla plugin and needs to be installed through Joomlas extension manager. The CB Search Bot allows searching of CB users using Joomla search module. It is completely separate from CB Userlists and has no form of filter/sorting."

i.e. "CB Search Bot" is the wrong tool for this job. Just as the normal/standard CB Search filter is probably a little too complex for the Job.

So for me the million dollar question. How can I get a Search filter working. One that I can put in any module position on the Site. Where I have two drop down menus. One for "Tool of Trade" and one for "Location?"

One "Tool of Trade" and "One "Location" is enough for me :-)

Ok at a stretch multiple "Tool" selection with a COMD/CTRL click in combination with location but that would really be the height of it. B)

And yeah I am aware that in my screen shot the map and the search/filter option are not really interacting with each other in any way.

Add an External Joomla menu item with the URL of your choosing beginning with index.php.

and it really does not make sense to Search for some one for example in Berlin with options like… "Include all of" or "Include any of." Like I am really looking for some one in Berlin or in Beijing. Or some one who can edit on Avid or Final Cut etc. In my case it is pretty black and white.

Edit your userlist, scroll to the bottom, and set search mode to Simple Any.

You can't. CB has no such feature or module. You would need to custom develop a module that posts to the userlist. The only official feature we have close to this is CB Search Bot, but it's very simple in its searching (Joomla search module will also search CB users based off criteria supplied).

One "Tool of Trade" and "One "Location" is enough for me

Then set only those 2 fields as searchable on your userlist.

Add an External Joomla menu item with the URL of your choosing beginning with index.php.

OK. Got it thanks.

Further I changed the name of the List from "All BUG Members" to Search all Bug Members.

It is a tiny detail but I think it helps.

And there is still the option "List all"

Edit your userlist, scroll to the bottom, and set search mode to Simple Any.

Got it

It is not pretty but at least it has the functionality that I want. :woohoo:

You can't. CB has no such feature or module. You would need to custom develop a module that posts to the userlist. The only official feature we have close to this is CB Search Bot, but it's very simple in its searching (Joomla search module will also search CB users based off criteria supplied).

I will also investigate if there is a ready made alternative :cheer:

Then set only those 2 fields as searchable on your userlist.

Have done. So I guess you can mark this one as solved.

And thanks again for the External URL tip.

best

Paul

ps: I will also look at these alternatives
