Advanced Search

Let me put this in a different way that might be less confusing...

The search plugin you said I could use for this was version 1.0.1, which I found in the incubators and the title of that one is Joomla 2.5/3.0 CB Search plugin version 1.0.1.

The other one is in the add-ons and says it's for Joomla 2.5... version 1.0.3.

So, is there a difference? Is the older version actually newer? I'm completely confused on the version numbers and compatibility and don't want to install the wrong one.

Version 1.0.3 installs and works on both Joomla 2.5 and 3.x series.

All 1.0.3 does is add a checkbox to also search CB users... not what I need. For example, I want the user to be able to select the city and search for New York. If that's not possible, they're going to get results like someone's favorite food is 'new york style pizza'. I hope there is functionality for this somewhere as every other social network has this capability (and so does JomSocial).

And I have another issue... What is version 1.0.1? I tried that one in case it had the typical social network search capability I'm looking for. It said 'installing plugin successful'. I don't see it in the plugins. So do I need to find it and rip it out of my file system? It obviously doesn't work.

Right, but you can edit the Joomla plugin and select which fields it will consider when searching user profiles. So you can have it search the city field but not the favorite food field.

For other search usages you should consider configuring a CB User list as it can be configured to show specific field searches.

It is a Joomla plugin - you install it via the Joomla extension manager and you will find it in the Joomla plugin area and NOT the CB Plugin area.

Okay... the first response wouldn't work. If the user decides he does want to search for the user's favorite food, they obviously can't edit the options of the Joomla plugin.

As far as configuring CB User List... I don't see that plugin. The only thing I see as far as a user list is the CB menu item. And there's no options to show search fields.

I think the client is just not going to be happy with the CB search functionality... too bad. I didn't think that CB would have less search functionality than the basic search functionality that comes with Joomla. Unfortunately, you can extend that to search articles, categories, etc., but the most it will extend for CB is to search CB. It would be up to CB to include the functionality to go deeper, but it doesn't.

Maybe (or hopefully) I misunderstood what you meant by changing the CB User List fields.

Suggest you download and study the detailed CB documentation from the Advanced download area that you also have access to.

CB User Lists are part of Community Builder - there is no extra plugin.

You configure your user lists (as many as you want) from the Community Builder -> User lists manager in backend.
