And if you are NOT using the LDAP plugin, then the latent (unactivated) LDAP Auth plugin doesn't offer any security risk?

There is no risk if you're not using the LDAP plugin.

QUESTION: any known issues for CB / CBsubs with this J3.8 update?

We've no known issues with Joomla 3.8 at this time.

(sigh)... I managed to find a JOOMLA 3.8 upgrade issue. (not related to CB/CBsubs)

Just tried upgrading my DEV server, and immediately following the 'upgrade', it went to all white screen under the Admin menu.

All the admin menus still "work", but nothing displays in the screen. Front end seems 100% functional, but back end crippled with
"Error 0 Call to undefined method JadminCssMenu::AddChild()"

seems I am not the ONLY one...

Our template developer reports "Joomla recently released J3.8. Unfortunately they removed over 300 files in the update (in preparation for the forthcoming Joomla 4.x) that our Gantry 4 templates relied upon."

It's stuff like this (endless chain of updates breaking stuff) that makes me want to find another line of work...

As I understood it was supposed to just be a move and not a removal. Aliases were supposed to point old classes to the new namespaced classes basically preventing breaking of anything. Seams like maybe they missed an alias for the backend menu class. No idea what other class alises they may have missed, but so far none negatively impact CB (we don't use Joomla API to render our menu; we just echo the proper HTML).

Real pitty that other Joomla extensions providers don't test betas and RCs of new Joomla versions. All Joomla Extensions Directory listing holders have received advance information and request for tests and feedback. Now instead of having Joomla improving its backwards compatibility, they have to implement forward compatibility.
