profile update on frontend not working

I've got a problem with people being unable to update their profile on the frontend. It was working fine but suddenly its stopped. I am not sure if its some sort of permission issue with edit profile settings but I can't for the life of me work out whats changed.

What happens when someone updates? Any messages?

It it was working then something broke it (code does not mutate ).

Turn on Joomla debug and see if any errors appear during your tests.

It doesn't give any messages whatsoever. You click the Update button and nothing. It seems like a permission thing. superusers can't save but another lower group can save but another group which is basically identical can't save. I am at a lose as to what has changed. I thought it was from CBprivacy install but I don't think so anymore. Joomla debug comes up with Duplicate Query no idex key could be found. In a bit over my head

I can't seem to find where the edit permissions for the profile edit page are. It seems like just the one group can edit profiles but I can't find where to change that.

If clicking update does nothing then it's a jQuery issue as the jQuery is erroring and unable to submit the form. Press F12, refresh the page, and check the Console tab for any fatal errors. Switch to default Joomla template then see if issue persists. If it does then begin disabling non-core CB plugins 1 by 1 within CB > Plugin Management.

OK done all of the below. Changing template did nothing. Same with disabling plugins one by one.
