Your thumbnail size is really small or you uploaded a really small image. GJ will no longer stretch images. They'll be sized exactly as they're stored. No downscale and no upscale. This prevents any and all distortion. CB Gallery will receive the same CSS fixes GJ is using in a later release.1. See the attached images from Groupjive Photos, very small. The same photos look fine at the users' profile pages though.
No, it's not the same code. It won't be until 3.1.0 where GJ Gallery will be implemented to use CB Gallery API.Does GJ Photo use the CB gallery?
Your internet probably has terrible upload speeds. If it's not the upload that's slow then there's a server performance issue with processing the image. GD2 is slow, but included with PHP. ImageMagick will give you your best performance.2. The uploading time is just very long, I am going to speak to the hosting company about it, but is there anything you would recommend? I tried the image magic, I don't see the difference at all, I even got error messages to upload the canvas and logo images together when I created a group, so I had to change back to GD2.

What size is the thumbnail on disk? Those sizes are the defaults and are fine. There's no other parameters controlling the GJ Photo sizes. You could have some other CSS on your site causing an issue though. If you can provide a URL to a public group with the issue (here or in PM) will inspect the CSS.1. The max. thumbnail size at the GJ configuration is 640x320. The image sizes I uploaded are 3.5MB and 800KB. Is there anywhere else I can set the thumbnail size?
The CSS and classes are correct.I just checked the CSS for this thumbnail, I see some class like "gjContainerBoxLogo text-center" or "cbTooltip gjGroupPhotoLogo", should it be right?
A 3.5MB image is massive. It will take awhile to process. Do not expect speeds like you find with Facebook, Imgur, etc.. they have an entire server stack that does nothing but process images.2. For some reason, imagemagic does not work well on my site; slower than GD2, and unless the images are very small, I can't upload the logo and canvas images at the same time.
