frontend users not able to login was created by shawneo
im having login issues. Each time a user who previously signed up for a plan unsubscribes and is no longer subscribed to any plan, when they resubscribe and then try to login they are not able to login to the frontend. The backend shows them logged in, in fact it shows multiple instances of them logged in, but in the frontend it just gives an error message:

Error

Any insight as to why this may be happening?

my site is www.gtmlive.com

I just noticed it last week. I thought it was related to me having my webhost install SSL on my site. But now it seems more like a cb issue as the user is being logged in but on frontend no access. So im a bit confused what it could be. I haven't installed anything new recently accept for the SSL cert.

also, i know i should upgrade to 4.0.1 but i just dont have the finances for it quite yet. so thats not an option yet.

It seems the only way I can get it to work is to manually reset the password in the backend. Why would the password need manually reset upon resubscription? ;(

This is what my webhost just told me. Maybe you can make some sense of it.

It seems that something is assigning the "Public" group to the registered users, as I went ahead to the Joomla admin area > Users > Manage > Clicked on "Joe Johnson" > Assigned User Groups > Removed the "Public" group check box and updated the user. And now the login for:

username: joetest
pass: c00kies

is working normally as I was able to log and browse the user area.

Now I can not say what exactly is setting the "Public" group to the user, so please what extensions/changes you made that could lead to the change of the User to be added to the "Public" group, once you find what is causing this change you will find the cause of the problem. Basically what you could do as I have removed the "Public" group for the user, try to do different actions with the user "joetest" and check which if those actions will add the "Public" group, that way you will find the cause more easily.

Normally, this is not configured in CB but by Joomla (and CB just follows).

Joomla -> Users -> Manage -> Options -> Component -> New User Registration Group

This is normally be set to Registered.

Nothing in CB changes this.
