I still don't follow you! When I unzip pkg_communitybuilder_2.0.14+build.2016.08.23.14.39.03.b6689b7c7.zip (downloaded from the link you provided me) I don't see any such structure. Opening that zip file shows this instead:

Similar story with the cbsubs ( ps_cbsubs_4.1.0+build.2016.08.23.14.36.51.131849874.zip )

If I dig inside the above /extensions/ folder, there is a subfolder /packages/ ... but it only contains index.html and nothing else...

You're doing a migration, correct? Do not install anything except CB on initial migration. This means download CB by it self. Then unzip the Package Installer and inside extensions/packages/ will be the CB package that you need to install. This skips the Package Installer and should allow the CB migration to go more smoothly.

If you're not migrating then make a new topic that clearly states your issue because this has gone so far off topic I don't even know what your issue is anymore, sorry.

OK, let me try to clarify.

Yes, this IS a migration, as stated in the first line of the first post in this thread ( www.joomlapolis.com/forum/153-professional-member-support/234383-500-error-on-cbsubs-plan-edit?limitstart=0#284533 )

Yes, I did download CB 'by itself' using the link to current CB you provided me on the sixth post of page one of this thread ( www.joomlapolis.com/forum/153-professional-member-support/234383-500-error-on-cbsubs-plan-edit?limitstart=0#284620 )

That was the download link to pkg_communitybuilder_2.0.14+build.2016.08.23.14.39.03.b6689b7c7.zip - and as I show in the previous screencaps, it's evidently not the same "package installer" you are referring to... (???)

Anyway, when I ran into the '500 error' which prompted this thread, the process which led to it was exactly as described here:
www.joomlapolis.com/forum/153-professional-member-support/234383-500-error-on-cbsubs-plan-edit?start=6#284894

It's looking like the CB package comes with some flaws... after all I did have the CB-GroupJive plugin DISABLED, and it was still causing errors on the plan display page. I had to uninstall it for the error to go away!

Anyway, I digress... it looks like there is some semantic confusion about what download is what.

I'm planning to do another migration test run by installing the newest CB 2.15 zip package
pkg_communitybuilder_2.0.15+2016.08.24.16.38.53.60da338b5.zip

and then installing the latest cbSubs zip package
ps_cbsubs_4.1.0+build.2016.08.23.14.36.51.131849874.zip

Should be OK, correct?? ( nothing to unzip, no 'package installer' to skip?).

I will do all the requisite disabling of modules and plugins, before the migration!

Doesn't matter if you have it disabled if you've CBSubs GroupJive enabled it's going to try to load GJ and use its API. Both need to be disabled or both need to be updated.

Download just CB it self, which gives you pkg_communitybuilder_2.0.15+2016.08.24.16.38.53.60da338b5.zip. Unzip this and navigate to the extensions folder followed by the packages folder. Inside that folder is 001_pkg_communitybuilder_2.0.15+2016.08.24.16.38.53.60da338b5.zip. Install that within Joomla extension manager while migrating. Is this required? I don't know as my migration tests have all been simple installs with Joomla + all our products only. Some have reported migration issues while using a package installer and by extracting the actual CB package you can skip using the package installer to circumvent such an issue.

Do not install anything else alongside the migration though. CB first by it self followed by updating all your plugins as a separate install.

OK, I see it now... the confusion was mine, because I was accidentally looking inside the "CBSubs" installer zip ( which has nothing but index.html in that folder ).

Just one puzzle for me now, when you say "Doesn't matter if you have it disabled if you've CBSubs GroupJive enabled it's going to try to load GJ and use its API. Both need to be disabled or both need to be updated."

Both??? What do you mean by "both"?

I do not have GroupJive in my initial installion, never have. Why is is magically loading an API after migration ( even with the plugin DISABLED?)

Testingā€¦ Still get 500 error when looking at a planā€¦ :(
UNINSTALLED CB-GroupJive pluginā€¦ THIS SEEMS TO BE THE FIX!

My reply was in response to that. If you had GJ installed and CBSubs GJ installed then a disabled GJ could potentially still cause problems as older CBSubs releases just included the GJ plugins class file instead of checking that the plugin was loaded or not. So you'd still get issues with its API. To fix that you'd disable both GJ and CBSubs GJ.
