Thanks Kyle. I tried something a bit different - created an integer field called "cb_has_user_logged_in" and an Auto Action to sets this field at 1 after the user first logs in.

The PM on friend request needs to get triggered when the recipient's value for "cb_has_user_logged_in" field equals 1, not the sender's.

Willl this work?

I tried it with the following condition:
[cb:userdata field="cb_has_user_logged_in" user="var2" /] - Equal to - 1

..but the PM didn't get sent.

Am I on the right track?

No, that won't work. You can't specify var2 like that in the substitution. You need to set the actual actions user parameter as suggested below.

Then just use substitutions normally.

Seems like this thread could go on forever...?!

I don't want to send the email before the user has logged in, as this is essentially junk and unprofessional. So I thought that by setting a condition within the auto action, ie. checking to see if a field has changed, could work.

As far as I can tell, the link you sent me to, ie. using this field in the condition [cb:userdata field="email" user="#me" /] won't help..

If you could help me work out what to do here that could save a lot of time.. If it's not possible, please let me know.

Within your action you need to set the "User" parameter under the "Global" tab to "Manually" and once done a parameter below it called "User Variable" needs to be set to "Variable 2". This may allow substitutions from the user id of the second variable to work.

I don't know what more to tell you. This may not be possible as that trigger does not give you a user object. A PM is certainly doable since that action can work from a user id, but the email action can not.

Got this working :side:

I changed the user to "manually" - it still didn't work, so I changed the [cb:userdata field="email" user="#me" /] to just [cb:userdata field="email" /] and it worked. Thanks for your help with this!

Great, still not sure what to do about that modal window not working on your mobile device. If anyone else could confirm that would be great, but as is I can't see any reason for it to not work.
