How to set the length of the automatically generated password?

7 years 11 months ago #290895 by STUCKSHUTTER
We are using CB and the CB registration process and it works great.
The question I have is where do I set the length of the system generated password for new users?
For example, 12 characters in length. I see a minimum length in Joomla password configuration and in CB a password "Maximum Length" and a "Size" setting.
Can you explain how to properly set the length of the system created password and the required types of characters/symbols/integers?
Thanks

Joomla 3.6.5 & CB 2.1.2

There's no parameter to set the random password length. It's always 12 characters. As for what characters it contains that's entirely up to Joomla as we're using Joomlas API to generate them.

Thanks for the fast response. That is most helpful.
The reason for the question was the automatically generated new user email password field is showing absurdly long passwords.
Here is an example from that email:
...
Username: xxxxxxx Password: $2y$10$zZX7FLnLvUu4BL0j04KzX.H3Gfdf/tXj9ClRbOi6TWb9S/GuXxDJ2 has been activated. We welcome you to our online community and trust that together we will grow. ...

Do you have any thoughts on what might be going on?
All help much appreciated.

That's an encrypted password. What email are you sending passwords in? Typically they should only be sent in the Pending email.

Thanks Kyle, appreciate the help and insights.
We don't send a pending message as we don't require approval, it just confuses our users.
So we send this in the approved registration:
The text is coming from the YOUR_REGISTRATION_IS_APPROVED_MESSAGE key in the language file and shows there as:
Code:
Welcome [NAME], Your application has been approved by our administration team. Your account with the following details: [DETAILS] has been activated. We welcome you to our online community and trust that together we will grow. Enjoy the experience! Kind Regards, Website Administration Team

Up until very recently, this has shown the user readable version of the password so the behavior us relatively new, maybe last three weeks or so.

Do you have any recommendations?

How are you approving users? Frontend workflows module? Backend user management charkmark? Backend user edit?
