Working on my new Status plugin...

I'm currently working on the ADMIN back end part of the thing. This is a very confusing area for me since I don't have much experience with programming for the back end/admin section.

After that I have a couple of tweaks/additions to the component itself which I'd like to implement.

Once I get a rough version working I can get you a test copy and you can tell me if it works and give me some feedback. Currently though, this is only available for J1.0.x. Since none of my sites run on 1.5.x yet I'm still working in J1.0.x mode.

Ugh... 1.0 is basically obsolete, mediaguru... none of my sites still use it. I'm sure checking out the APIs of some of the existing CB 1.2 plugins would help you immensely in changing from a hack and to 1.5 compatible. No hurries... I've tried myself, but with the little snippets of time I have, I haven't had the chance to really learn the proper formation of a plugin. I forget what I learned before I get back to it again...

First I'd say that 1.0 isn't obsolete. I have 20+ sites running it and they're all working great. I guess you could say my 2001 vehicle is obsolete too, but it gets me to the golf course and back just as well as a 2009.

At some point I'll start making the move to J1.5. The problem is that I have SO much custom code for my golf site that I'd have to be ready to enter programming HELL to make them all 1.5 compatible. Maybe they'll work in legacy mode, haven't tried yet. But that isn't quite the point anyway. I'd want them to be native. Maybe it isn't as hard as I expect. Either way it will be a pain to switch over such a customized template, 4200 member site, and all the custom mods, plugs and comps...

I also sort of wanted to lean how to program J1.0 just because. Perhaps it would give me a better background on 1.5. Maybe I'm on drugs on that one, but as long as I'm learning Joomla/CB skills I'm happy with that.

By obsolete, I mean that Joomla 1.0 is no longer supported (or won't be soon).... I can't remember the date they gave. The API for 1.5 is changed immensely, so I just didn't want to see you spending time on something if you don't have to that won't be supported anyway.

Also, just for argument's sake... legacy mode isn't bad... it only kicks in when you need it... otherwise, everything is natively run without legacy activating.

Ok Rapunzi, thanks to your suggestions I've started working in the J1.5 world too. I've had the "fun" of converting my Karma plug/comp into J1.5. See this post .

Nice of them to stop using patTemplate. That made things really suck.

I'll work on my status plug next. I think it will actually be easier than the Karma was...
