So you only want a category visible if the user belongs to a group in that category? This is sort of possible by enabling hiding of empty categories within GJ > Configuration > Categories > General, but this assumes the category has no groups the user can see. If you want the Group to only be visible to those that have joined it then you need to set it to Invite Only type.

No idea where you obtained them, but GJ only comes with the English language plugin. Language files should be packaged as a CB language plugin to be installed through CB > Plugin Management.

The formatname field is always used for name displays. You can set what this field displays by adjusting the "Name Format" parameter within CB > Configuration > General. You can also restyle the Group Users tab by changing its template as you see fit below.
