[SOLVED] where is email notification set ?

Oh lawdy.....

So I had to go into each category, group and subgroup and set all notifications to "dont notify" and save, and then back in and set all notifications to "do notify" and save... and then it worked.

"ain't nobody got time for dat!"

So next question: so if you set a category's notifications to notify for

Create of new Club: notify

New Club requires approval: notify

Update of existing Club: notify

Delete of existing Club: notify




category of clubs > clubs tab

Create of new Club: notify

New Club requires approval: notify

Update of existing Club: notify

Delete of existing Club: notify



categories of clubs > nested categories of clubs tab

Create of new nested Category of Clubs: notify

New nested Category of Clubs requires approval: notify

Update of existing nested Category of Clubs: notify

Delete of existing nested Category of Clubs: notify

Why if all these are set to notify - does a user have to log into each sub-group and re-set notifications?

Why is there not a "master" setting of "notify me of any new users and/or new groups created for anything created inside this category"....

or is there and I am not understanding where to set it ??

The notifications are Category by Category, Group by Group, and User by User. So each user can configure the notifications they receive for each group and/or category individually. You can set the Defaults for these notifications, which applies to all categories/groups, but they only take affect if the user has not already stored a notification row for that category/group.

A simple way to force the defaults is delete every notification row in _groupjive_notifications. Then run GJ > Tools and it'll notice the rows are missing and ask if you want to create them. When it creates them it'll create them with the Defaults. Now every user will have notifications configured exactly as to what your defaults are configured to.

so as for this database edit...

will this eliminate the need for every user having to go through the
"set to don't notify, save, set to notify, save" process?

Because at this point I am telling the site owner to go into Notifications and "set to don't notify, save, set to notify, save" ... and think that I will have to include this on the "how to use this site" published instructions as well.

Unless - this one-time table/database edit will fix this process.

They shouldn't have to do this to begin with. As explained every category and group has its own notifications. The defaults don't do anything if they have no notifications row stored to database. Easiest way to create a notification row in database is for example to join a group or edit notifications while in that group and save them then defaults will apply. GJ Tools will also detect that a notification row is missing and provide a link to fix this by creating it (with defaults). However, if a notification row for a group/category is already saved in database then the defaults have no affect.

so I'm a bit foggy on all this but is this what you are saying here:

A user will just have to go into groups NOTIFICATIONS settings - which defaulted to "notify" on everything - and hit SAVE?

this process writes the row to their user account?

And therefore they do not HAVE to do the "dont notify - save - notify - save" process?

so yes, I just tested this. Just hitting the "save" button did save the default notifications ('notify of new users' etc...)
