OK thinking aloud on how to progress this...

What is the easiest way to test if the language plugins might be causing the problem? I have edited the language files and also the xml files as per www.joomlapolis.com/forum/153-professional-member-support/222830-payment-using-payment-type-and-payment-status-drop-downs-on-baskets-screens and may have not done this as you intended. Given they cannot simply be unpublished what is the best way to uninstall and reinstall a language file?

The area that I was working in when this issue first arose was the ACL. I am having the problem even as SuperAdmin, so I discounted this as a likely issue, but is there anyway setting up additional Joomla user groups and access levels and assigning them different permissions might cause the hanging behavior on the CB User Mgt tab? Are there any known conflicts between ACL Mgr and CB/CBS?

I also mention that we have about 14000 users in case this is relevant. Also that, while CB User Mgt was trying to open in one tab, another tab trying to open the Joomla Users | User Manager was also delayed - but did eventually open when the CB User Mgt tab timed out. On its own the Joomla User Manager opens okay.

And I guess the general question: where would you look next if you were in my position?

I renamed the VM file and this solved, as you expected, the errors reported on displaying a CBS plan.

Temporarily rename the language plugins folder at the below location.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/

Renaming it and adding -DISABLED to the end of it for example will stop it from loading in.

Shouldn't cause any issues. I suggest being careful with how many usergroups and view access levels you create through as Joomla loads them all at once. If you have for example 100 usergroups your entire site will begin to feel the affect. This is a Joomla design issue though.

No that I am aware, but I do not use any ACL Managers.

User management loads all of CBs plugins. The chances are very high that your slow down is due to a CB plugin.

And I guess the general question: where would you look next if you were in my position?

I would use xDebug and enable Profiling to profile the user management page. I would then use Webgrind to review the cache file. This would tell me exactly where the slow down is happening. However, if you've no experience with xDebug this will be more than complicated to do. Your host maybe able to help profile so you may want to try contacting them as well.

Uninstalled language plugins using your suggested method with no improvement in CB User Mgt loading. Reinstalled plugins.

Have 15 Joomla User Groups defined, and 9 access levels - so no where near the levels you suggested might slow down Joomla. In case it seems relevant one User Group defined for CB Moderator purposes, was initially created as a child of the Manager group, but then deleted and recreated (with different user group ID) as a child of Registered group.

Am currently thinking I need to recreate the test site to try to identify if and when the hang problem recurs.

I've no idea then. At this point the only way to identify the slow down is to xDebug Profile the site. Joomlas profiler is limited, but it may also be able to help so be sure debug mode and maximum error reporting are enabled. Once done try to visit the page and let it finish if it can. Next scroll down and expand the performance display and see where the slow down is starting according to Joomla.

In case it may be relevant, one other change I made to the site about the time this problem emerged was to add a new Field Delimiter field to display a user's full email address on an Admin only profile tab. This was in contrast to the normal public profile display of the user's email address as a Send Email link. Could this bypassing of the configuration setting to display user email addresses as Send Email links cause a hang? I have attached a shot of the new field's properties screen.


I have tried unpublishing this field (as per the screen shot) without any apparent impact on the CB User Mgt report hanging.

I searched on Joomla and afterDespatch and that took me to, among other places, to gtmetrix.com/ where I tested the speed of www.test2.sag.org.au/administrator/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=showTab&view=showTab and interestingly it showed 1.1sec at the same time as the page itself was still trying to load in a different tab! I really don't understand that.

Using an email substitution won't cause any problems. Your issue is happening in the dispatcher, which is where it loads in all the extensions. Did you move the Moderator Joomla user group? Ensure it is under Public within Joomlas usergroup manager. Moving it under a new parent is the only known issue in CB that causes a loop.
