Thanks for all your help, krileon Substitutions are working everywhere - for the Community Builder user list, my pdf certificate (this worked great for pdf generation -https://codepen.io/mooncake69/pen/MWaazyQ) , and all of substitutions are also working in the ACYmailing email EXCEPT the expiration date. The ACYMailing team have not offered any good solution. Is the subscription expiration date in a database field where the CB Query Field might be a possibility? These subscriptions last 5 years, so regular correspondence with the date are important to the organization.

If regular CB field substitutions work then you should be able to use the Custom HTML field trick. Create a Custom HTML field then under Parameters enable content plugins. Next add the following to it.

[cbsubs:subscriptions user="#displayed" plan="PLAN_ID_HERE" output="expiry_date" /]

Replace PLAN_ID_HERE with the id of your plan. Next display the Custom HTML field in AcyMailing. I'm not sure what else to suggest though as I've no idea how AcyMailing is rendering CB fields or what data it passes to Joomla content prepare.

Yes, you could try using CB Query Field and just querying for the expiration date from the _cbsubs_subscriptions table.
