Well, there is definitely no issue with the package com_uddeim.zip. Maybe something is wrong with your server, e.g.
- some servers have a http upload limit set to 2mb,
- maybe your server's unzip is buggy,
- copying lots of files (like in uddeIM) takes some time, so the Joomla installer may timeout (most likely).

If it is the last issue you can remove all language files from the package you do not need (remove the corresponding entries from the XML files). For very unreliable servers you can also remove the default template from the package (and the XML file). You can ftp the files manually after installation.

You would usually face this problem if you want to install an extenstion whose size is more than 2Mb. All you need to do i to log on to your Web Hosting Cpanel or File Manager then manually upload the joomla extension to the tmp folder, which in most cased if your host uses Cpanel would be /public_html/tmp.

Once you have uploaded, then log on to Joomla backend and go to Extensions => Install. The third option is for installing from a URL, just enter the full URL for the file that you have just uploaded. Usually its something like your-domain.com/tmp/com_uddeim.zip

It wont even take a minute to install

Well done Jconner it worked for me too.

If you tried to:
Upload package file and got this error
"There was an error uploading this file to the server."
Or you tried to Install from directory
for example /administrator/components/com_installer/template/mounge
as many have suggested, but still got this error
"Please enter a Package directory"
Try "Install from URL". with a fully qualified link to the file:
e.g. www.cowtan.net/archive/templates/mounge.zip

If Joomla is so tricky on basic features like this god help us!

Nice idea, so you have no upload limitation because its a download ;)

I add your steps to the sticky.

hey why dont they put in one of the umpteen million readmes that slabihoud.de included? it is impossible to install this component any other way. wrap your brain around this nugget -> i have uddeim on my addon domain and i was able to use this URL of my *top* domain to upload it.
