Community Builder 2.0.9 is here and fixes 15 issues (detailed list in discussion thread) also has 3 feature improvements that:
- improve performance
- provide better stability with updated imagine library
- upgrade select2 library to version 4 needed for CB Activity 3.0 RC2
Upgrading to Community Builder 2.0.9 can be done using the Joomla Extensions Update functionality or by simply downloading the CB 2.0.9 package and installing over your existing CB 2.0+ environment. If you are upgrading from CB 1.9.1, you should first take a look at video #30: CB 2.0 Tutorials - 30 - Upgrading from CB 1.9.1 to CB 2.0 - Expectations and first steps, our Getting started articles and of course the CB Primer Book.
With the release of CB 2.0.9, we have also released:

The new CB Activty 3.0 is just around the corner with awesome totally responsive fantastic looking features!
We are completely thrilled by the upcoming CB Activity 3.0. It is totally re-designed with pixel-perfect polishings and it includes best of bread activity streaming features. This brings a delightful User Experience (UX) to members and even surpasses features present on popular social networks!
In 3 words, it's the activity streaming Of Your Dreams. At least it's the one of our dreams.
Here are some of the main features in the soon to be released CB Activity 3.0 RC1:
- "What's on your mind?" posting
- Commenting everywhere
- Inline #hashtag support
- Inline emotions support (e.g., :smile:)
- Inline @username and @name type mentions
- Activity URLs automatically converted to clickable links
- 10 built-in Actions (Feeling, Watching, Reading, ...) and you can add your own!
- 62 built-in Emotions (smile, laughing, blush, ...) and you can add your own!
- Configurable limits everywhere (number of chars per post, comment, ...)
Every profile gets it's own Activity tab, but you can also create Joomla menu items to your activity streams!
And of course everything is responsive and lightning fast!
CB Activity 3.0 will be available for Professional and Developer members. A first Release Candidate (RC) is scheduled to take place soon after CB 2.0.8 is released (prerequisite for CB Activity 3.0).

The new Community Builder 2.0 Primer Book is here and now free for everyone to download. This new resource is designed to be both educational and fun to follow. Rather than creating a reference guide or user manual that replicates built-in help screens and tooltip messages, the CB Primer takes a different approach. It motivates you and gives you examples that trigger your imagination and spark your internal learning process. This fun to read book is an excellent companion to the 50+ video tutorials on our Joomlapolis Youtube channel. |
What’s in this book?
This book introduces some of the main features of Community Builder, the social networking platform for Joomla.
The layout of this book is somewhat unconventional as it follows a quick-start approach showing you things you can do out-of-the-box with little or no extra configuration and then gradually introduces extra configuration possibilities as they are needed. Sometimes the images included to help explain one topic also introduce elements and features that will make the reader think and understand future possibilities. This approach hopefully makes reading more enjoyable and easier to follow.

Joomla 3.4 and Community Builder 2.0.7 are ready to help you
do more with your websites.
The Joomla 3.4 release introduces the following key new features:
- easier front end editing for your modules
- a lighter distribution with the decoupling of weblinks
- composer integration to help developers be more productive
- improved spam protection with Google new reCaptcha (already supported in CB AntiSpam)
- security improvements by implementing UploadShield code which can detect most malicious uploads by examining their filenames and file contents.
Joomla 3.4 is a minor version that preserves compatibility and should in most cases be a simple and easy upgrade.
To upgrade from Joomla 2.5/3.3 to Joomla 3.4 you can use the built-in Joomla update functionality but first make sure that all your installed extensions and templates are compatible. If you are updating form Joomla 2.5 then our Migrating from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3 tutorial is a great resource for your upgrade project. Updating from Joomla 3.3 to 3.4 is simple and easy - just like upgrading from any Joomla 3.3.x release to 3.3.x+1. As always, start the process by taking a - just-in-case - full backup
Community Builder 2.0.7 addresses 6 minor identified bugs (see discusson on forum for details), of which one fixes the installation of CB as an upgrade on the new Joomla 3.4 release, which introduced an additional check on the package.
To upgrade to CB 2.0.7 all you need to do is use the Joomla Extensions Update functionality or simply download the CB 2.0.7 package and install. You can do this before or after your Joomla 3.4 upgrade.
